Omega-3 acid ethyl ester is a mixture of ethyl eicosapentaenoate and ethyl docosahexaenoate. Omega-3 fatty acids work by reducing the amount of triglycerides and other fats made by the liver.
Uses:
Omega-3 fatty acids are used in conjunction with lifestyle changes (diet, weight loss, exercise) to reduce the amount of triglycerides (fat-like substances) in the blood of people with very high triglycerides.
Dosage:
Prescription omega-3 fatty acids such as omega-3 acid ethyl esters, icosapentoethyl ester , and omega-3 carboxylic acids are available as liquid-filled oral gelcaps. Epanova is usually taken once daily with or without food. Lovaza is usually taken 1-2 times daily with or without food. Omytrg is usually taken one to two times daily with meals. Vacepa is usually taken twice daily with meals. Over-the-counter omega-3 fatty acids are provided in gelcaps for oral ingestion as directed on the package label. Consume your omega-3 fatty acids at approximately the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label or package carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anything you don't understand. Take your omega-3 fatty acids as directed. Do not take more or less or more often than directed by your doctor
