"What is Tizanidine? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects"

Tizanidine, which is also sold under the name Zanaflex, is a drug that is used to treat spastic cerebral palsy and muscle spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury. Its effectiveness is comparable to that of baclofen or diazepam.

Multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease in which the nerves do not function properly and patients may experience weakness, numbness, loss of muscle coordination, problems with vision, speech, and bladder control, stroke, or brain or spinal injury. Tizanidine is used to treat spasms and increased muscle tone.

Tizanidine is available as a tablet and a capsule for oral administration. It is typically taken two to three times per day, either always with or always without food. Carefully follow the instructions on your prescription label, and if you have any questions, ask your pharmacist or doctor. Follow the directions on tizanidine exactly. Do not take it more frequently or less frequently than your doctor has instructed.
Open tizanidine capsules and sprinkle them on soft foods like applesauce. Before opening the capsules, consult your doctor because the effects of the medication may differ from those of swallowing them whole.

Because the body absorbs the medication in a capsule differently than it does in a tablet, neither can be used in place of the other. Check the tablets or capsules in the bottle each time you get your prescription filled to make sure you got the right product. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist right away if you think you received the wrong medication.
