Information
The drug spirolactone belongs to a group of drugs known as aldosterone receptor antagonists.
Uses:
Spironolactone is a potassium-saving diuretic (water pill) that keeps your body from engrossing a lot of salt and keeps your potassium levels from getting excessively low.
Heart failure, high blood pressure (hypertension), and hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood) are all treated with spironolactone.
People who have congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or nephrotic syndrome can also get rid of fluid retention (edema) with spironolactone.
Spironolactone is likewise used to analyze or treat a condition in which you have a lot of aldosterone in your body. Your adrenal glands make aldosterone, a hormone that helps keep your body's salt and water levels in balance.
Dosage:
There are two forms of spironolactone: tablet and suspension (liquid; Carospir) should be taken orally. It is typically taken either once or twice daily. Spironolactone suspension can be taken with or without food on a regular basis. Every day, take spironolactone at roughly the same time(s).
Before each use, thoroughly shake the oral suspension to distribute the medication evenly.

Common side effects include electrolyte abnormalities, particularly high blood potassium, nausea, vomiting, headache, rashes, and a decreased desire for sex.
