What is Pravastatin ? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects

Pravastatin belongs to a group of medicines called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or 'statins' and should be used in combination with diet changes, exercise and weight loss. It works by slowing down the production of cholesterol in the body, reducing the amount of cholesterol that builds up in artery walls and blocks blood flow to the heart, brain, and other parts of the body.

Pravastatin is used to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with or without coronary artery disease or other risk factors. Pravastatin is used with diet, weight loss, and exercise to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke and to reduce the likelihood of needing heart surgery in people with heart disease or who are at risk of developing heart disease. Pravastatin reduces the amount of fatty substances such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (“bad cholesterol”) and triglycerides in the blood and the amount of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (“good cholesterol”). Also used for Blood Cholesterol")

Pravastatin is used in adults and children 8 years of age and older. Pravastatin is available as an oral tablet. In general, take this medicine once a day with or without food. Take pravastatin at approximately the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand.
