What is Olmesartan? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects


Olmesartan is in a class of prescriptions called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by preventing certain natural substances from tightening the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and the heart to work more effectively.


 Olmesartan is used to treat high blood pressure. It can be used on its own or in conjunction with other drugs that lower blood pressure. According to the drug label, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the benefits of olmesartan when used to treat patients with high blood pressure continue to outweigh its potential risks.

Dosage :

Olmesartan can be taken orally as a tablet. It is generally required once every day regardless of food. To assist you with making sure to take olmesartan, take it at around a similar time consistently. Carefully follow the instructions on your prescription label, and if you have any questions, ask your pharmacist or doctor. Olmesartan should be taken as directed. Do not take it more often or less frequently than your doctor has instructed you to.

Consult your physician or pharmacist if your child cannot swallow a tablet. This medication can be prepared for your child in a liquid form by the pharmacist.

Side effects :

  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • severe diarrhea
  • weight loss
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • hoarseness
