Products containing insulin glargine are used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). People who require insulin to regulate their type 2 diabetes (a condition in which the body does not utilise insulin normally and cannot control the quantity of sugar in the blood) can also be treated with insulin glargine products. Products containing insulin glargine must be used with another insulin type in patients with type 1 diabetes (a short-acting insulin). Products containing insulin glargine may also be combined with another type of insulin or with oral diabetic medications in persons with type 2 diabetes.
Uses:
Long-acting insulin, insulin glargine begins to work several hours after injection and continues to work evenly for 24 hours.
Diabetes mellitus patients take insulin glargine to control their blood sugar levels better.
Adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes should take Toujeo.
Basaglar, Lantus, and Semglee are for use in grown-ups with type 1 or 2 diabetes and in youngsters something like 6 years of age with type 1 diabetes (not type 2).

Dosage:
Read all medication guides and instruction sheets and adhere to all instructions on your prescription label. Follow the directions on the medicine exactly.
- Under the skin, insulin glargine is typically injected once per day at the same time.
- Use your short-acting insulin as directed by your doctor before meals when treating type 1 diabetes.
- Using an insulin pump or combining it with other insulins is not allowed with insulin glargine. Insulin glargine should not be injected into a muscle or vein.
- When you are ready to administer an injection, you should prepare it. If the medication appears cloudy, has changed color, or contains particles, contact your pharmacist.
- You will be shown by your healthcare provider where to inject insulin glargine. It is not recommended to inject the same area twice.
- Do not inject into damaged, tender, bruised, pitted, thickened, scaly, scarred, or hard lumped skin.
- Toujeo has three times as much insulin glargine per milliliter (mL) as brands with 100 units per mL.
Side effects:
If you notice any of the following symptoms, you should see a doctor right away: swelling or redness where an injection was given, a skin rash that itches all over your body, difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeats, feeling like you might pass out, or swelling in your tongue or throat are all symptoms.
