Lansoprazole sold under brand names such as Prevacid. Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. Lansoprazole reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Uses:
Prescription lansoprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease ( GERD is a condition in which acid reflux from the stomach causes heartburn and possible damage to the esophagus ) in adults and children over the age of one. .
Dosage:
Use Lansoprazole exactly as directed on the label or as directed by your doctor and read the medication guide or directions for use.Lansoprazole is usually taken before meals. Prevacid OTC should be taken in the morning before breakfast.Read and carefully follow all directions for use that come with your medicine. If you do not understand these directions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
- constipation
- abdominal pain
- nausea
Serious side effects include:
- osteoporosis
- low blood magnesium levels
- Clostridium difficile infection
- pneumonia.
