Gemfibrozil sold under brand names such as Lopid. It works by reducing the production of triglycerides in the liver.
Uses:
- Gemfibrozil is used with diet to treat very high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with pancreatitis.
- Gemfibrozil is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in certain people with high cholesterol or triglycerides who have not benefited from other treatments.
- Do not take gemfibrozil if you have severe liver, kidney, or gallbladder disease, or if you are also taking repaglinide, dasabuvir, or simvastatin.
Dosage:
Take gemfibrozil exactly as directed by your doctor. Follow all directions on the prescription label and read the medication guide or directions for use.Gemfibrozil is usually taken 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner.
