Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid (glucocorticoids are a class of corticosteroid hormones that are highly effective in reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system). It is primarily prescribed for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
Methylprednisolone is effective in a variety of inflammatory conditions such as:
- ulcerative colitis
- allergic disorders
- glandular (endocrine)
- conditions affecting the skin, eyes, lungs, stomach, nervous system, or blood cells
