Benzonates sold under the Tessaron brand name and among others,. Benzoic acid numbs the throat and lungs and weakens the cough reflex.
Uses:
Benzoic acid is used to relieve coughs and hiccups.
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to benzonates or local anesthetics such as tetracaine or procaine.
Dosage:
Benzonatate comes in liquid-filled capsules and oral capsules. In general, take 3 times a day as needed. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take your benzonate as directed. Do not take more or less, or more often than directed by your doctor.
