Irbesartan marketed under the Avapro brand name and among others. Irbesartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers. It blocks the action of certain natural substances that constrict blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.
Uses:
- Irbesartan is used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children over the age of 6. Lowering blood pressure can lower the risk of stroke and heart attack.
- Irbesartan is also used to treat kidney problems caused by type 2 diabetes.

Dosage:
Irbesartan is available as an oral tablet. In general, take this medicine once a day with or without food. Take your irbesartan at about the same time each day so you don't miss a dose. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take irbesartan as directed. Do not take more or less, or more often than directed by your doctor.

- fatigue
- muscle pain
- heartburn
Serious side effects include :
- kidney problems
- low blood pressure
- angioedema
Use during pregnancy may harm the baby, and use during breastfeeding is not recommended.
