Diazepam, first marketed as Valium, is a benzodiazepine drug that acts as an anxiolytic. It works by calming abnormal overactivity in the brain.
Uses:
Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and control anxiety caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used with other drugs to control spasms caused by certain neurological disorders such as muscle spasms or stiff-man syndrome,( a rare disorder characterized by tightness and tightness of muscles ). Diazepam is also used with other drugs to control seizures
Dosage:
Diazepam is available as tablets, solutions, and concentrates for oral intake. It is usually taken 1 to 4 times daily and can be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take diazepam as directed.
Side Effects:
Some common side effects:
- sleepiness
- fatigue
- muscle weakness
- problems with balance and muscle movement
Some side effects can be serious:
- Inability to control body movements
- uncontrolled shaking of a body part
- slurred
- slow breathing and heart rate
