Information
Cetirizine is an antihistamine of the second generation that lowers the body's natural chemical histamine.
Cetirizine belongs to the antihistamine class of drugs. It works by preventing histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms, from doing its job.
Cetirizine and pseudoephedrine (Sudafed and others) can also be purchased together. The only information in this monograph is about how to use cetirizine on its own. Read the directions on the package label if you are taking a product that contains both cetirizine and pseudoephedrine, or consult your physician or pharmacist for additional details.
Uses:
Sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose are all symptoms of a cold or allergy that can be treated with cetirizine.
Cetirizine also reduces or eliminates symptoms of physical urticaria, atopic dermatitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and allergic asthma. It is also used to treat an allergic reaction, itching, and swelling caused by chronic urticaria (hives).
Dosage:
Cetirizine can be taken with or without food.
Before swallowing the tablet, it must be chewed.
Doses for the mouth: Use a special dose-measuring spoon or cup to measure liquid medication (oral solution), not a standard table spoon. Ask your pharmacist for a dose-measuring device if you do not already have one.
Call your PCP in the event that your side effects get worse, on the off chance that they deteriorate, or on the other hand in the event that you likewise have a fever. Cetirizine should be kept at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
Side effects:
The degree of sleepiness that occurs is typically less than with first-generation antihistamines[6]. It appears safe to use during pregnancy, but breastfeeding is not recommended. Common side effects include dry mouth, headache, and abdominal pain.
Disclaimer:
