The drug bupropion belongs to the group of drugs known as antidepressants. It functions by boosting specific types of brain activity.

Uses:

Major depressive disorder (MDD), seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and smoking cessation are all conditions that are treated with the antidepressant drug bupropion. It is believed to function by altering the concentrations of specific molecules in the brain.

Other brands of bupropion may be used for MDD or SAD, whereas the Zyban brand of bupropion is used to aid in quitting smoking.

Bupropion is also occasionally used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and episodes of depression in people with bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder; a condition that produces episodes of melancholy, episodes of mania, and other aberrant moods) (ADHD; more difficulty focusing, controlling actions, and remaining still or quiet than other people who are the same age).
