Fluticasone/salmeterol, sold under brand names such as Advair, is a fixed-dose combination drug containing fluticasone propionate and salmeterol. Fluticasone and salmeterol are long-term treatments for COPD patients. Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs called steroids. It works by reducing airway swelling. Salmeterol belongs to a class of drugs called long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs). It works by relaxing and opening the airways in the lungs, making breathing easier. In people with asthma, fluticasone and salmeterol are intended for short-term treatment until symptoms are well controlled with other drugs.

Dosage:
Use the medicine at the same time each day. Use only the inhaler provided with the medicine.
Shake the Advair HFA inhaler for at least 5 seconds before each puff.
Do not let small children use this medicine without adult help.
Read and carefully follow all directions for use that come with your medicine. If you do not understand these directions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not swallow, rinse mouth with water after each use of inhaler.
Once your asthma is under control, your doctor may ask you to stop using this medicine. Do not stop using the medicine unless directed by your doctor.
Side Effects:
Some Common side effects:- Headache, muscle pain, bone pain, back pain;
- nausea, vomiting;
- thrush, inflammation of the throat;
- persistent cough, hoarseness, or low voice;
- Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat; and
- Ear infections (in children) - fever, earache or feeling full, hearing loss, ear discharge, restlessness.
Some side effects can be serious:
wheezing, choking, or other breathing problems after using fluticasone and salmeterol;
fever, chills, productive cough, shortness of breath;
chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, severe headaches, pounding in the neck or ears;
Hyperglycemia - increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath;
Signs of hormonal disorders - increased fatigue and weakness, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting.
