What is Pipali? - Information & uses

  • Pipali (Piper longum) is a flowering plant in the pepper family. It is cultivated for its fruit. The fruit is dried and used in Ayurveda for its spice, flavour, and medicinal properties. Its taste is similar to black pepper, a member of the same family, but hotter.
  • Pipali is an effective herb in managing cough and cold. Pipali controls cough, releases mucus, clears air passages, thus allowing the patient to breathe freely. This is because Pipali  has decongestant, bronchodilator and expectorant effects due to its Kapha balancing properties.
