Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Pantoprazole belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. Pantoprazole prevents the proton pump from working properly. This reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. Among other proton pump inhibitors marketed under the Protonix brand name are the treatment of gastric ulcers, short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger. Pantoprazole is used for the short-term treatment of esophageal erosions and ulcers in adults and children aged 5 years and older caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease.
