What is Bibhitaka? - Information & uses

  • Behada or Bibhitaka trees are very large, wide and tall. The height of the tree is 18-30 meters, and the thickness of the bark is about 2 cm. The tree is abundant in mountains and highlands. Its shadow is beneficial to health.
  • Bibhitaka fruit contains various botanicals such as beta-sitosterol, tannins, geric acid, ethylic acid and elegiic acid. The yellow oil obtained from the seed kernel is valued for its astringent and laxative properties. Bibhitaka leaves and roots also have strong medicinal properties.
  • This classic herb means "not afraid of disease" according to Ayurvedic scriptures. It's a wild fruit. That is, it is not cultivated, but harvested from uncultivated forests. Bibhitaka is believed to alleviate illness, prolong life, and increase endurance and strength.
