Alendronic acid is a bisphosphonate that is used to treat osteoporosis and Paget's disease of the bone. It is also sold under the brand name Fosamax and other names. It is taken orally. Utilization is frequently suggested in conjunction with vitamin D, calcium supplementation, and lifestyle modifications.

Uses:

Alendronate is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis, which is a condition in which a person's bones become thin, weak, and break easily. It is also used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have gone through menopause, also known as the "change of life." Men and women who are taking corticosteroids (a type of medication that may cause osteoporosis in some patients) can also use alendronate to treat osteoporosis. Alendronate is also used to treat Paget's disease of the bone, which causes bones to be soft, weak, and susceptible to deformity, pain, and breakage. Bisphosphonates are a group of drugs that include alendronate. It works by increasing bone density (thickness) and preventing bone breakdown.

Dosage:

Alendronate comes in tablet, effervescent tablet, and liquid (solution) forms. Once a week in the morning, the solution is usually taken on an empty stomach. The 5-mg and 10-mg tablets are typically taken in the morning on an empty stomach once a day, while the 35-mg and 70-mg tablets are typically taken in the morning once a week. For six months, the 40-mg tablets are typically taken in the morning to treat Paget's disease of the bone. The effervescent tablets are typically taken once per week in the morning on an empty stomach.

Side effects:

Constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, and acid reflux are among the most common side effects (between 1 and 10% of patients). Pregnant women and individuals with impaired kidney function should not use. Alendronic corrosive works by diminishing the action of cells that separate bone.
