The medications known as selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) include venlafaxine. It works by making more of the natural chemicals in the brain called serotonin and norepinephrine, which help keep the mind in balance.
For the treatment of major depressive disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder, venlafaxine is a prescription drug.
Uses:
Depression is treated with venlafaxine. Additionally, venlafaxine extended-release (long-acting) capsules are used to treat GAD; panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks), social anxiety disorder (extreme fear of interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life), and excessive worrying that is difficult to control.

Dosage:
Take with food simultaneously every day.
Do not crush, chew, break, or open the extended-release capsule or tablet. Instead, swallow it whole.
Open a capsule and mix the medication with applesauce if you are unable to swallow the contents whole. Immediately consume the mixture without chewing.

Side effect:
- vision that is blurry, eye pain or redness, and seeing halos around lights;
- trouble breathing, a cough, tightness in the chest;
- a convulsion (seizure);
- abnormal bleeding, such as nosebleeds, gum bleeding, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or any bleeding that won't stop;
- low blood sodium can cause headaches, confusion, memory or thinking problems, weakness, and unsteadiness; or a severe reaction to the nervous system, such as very stiff (rigid) muscles, a high fever, sweating, confusion, rapid or irregular heartbeats, tremors, and the sensation that you might pass out.
