What is Topiramate? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects

Information

Topiramate belongs to the class of drugs known as anticonvulsants. It works by reducing excessive brain excitement.

Topiramate is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to treat epilepsy and prevent migraines. It is also sold under the brand name Topamax.

In 1996, Topiramate was given medical approval in the United States. It is available as a generic drug.

Uses:

Topiramate was originally used as an anticonvulsant. In children, it is indicated for the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a disorder that causes seizures and delays development. Topiramate is used to treat epilepsy in both children and adults. Because it reduces the severity and duration of attacks, it is typically prescribed for the treatment of migraines.
Topiramate may alleviate your migraines or seizures, but it will not cure your condition. Even if you are feeling well, take topiramate as directed. Even if you experience side effects like unusual behavior or mood changes, do not stop taking topiramate without consulting your doctor. Even if you have never had seizures before, you may experience severe seizures if you suddenly stop taking topiramate. Your doctor will probably gradually lower your dose.

Dosage:

You can take topiramate with or without food.

Avoid crushing, chewing, or breaking the tablet by swallowing it whole. The Trokendi XR broadened discharge container should be gulped down. Do not open or break.
Topiramate tablets have a harsh taste so you ought to gulp down them. It is particularly critical that you not take topiramate tablets that have been broken for any period of time since tablets that are broken may lose their adequacy over the long haul.

Side effects: Topiramate may have severe negative effects.
