What is Omeprazole? Full information, uses, benefits and side effects.

Introduction

Omeprazole is used to treat excess stomach acid in conditions such as noncancerous gastric ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), active duodenal ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and erosive esophagitis. Omeprazole inhibits the production of stomach acid and belongs to a group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors. Omeprazole can also be given with antibiotics to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection.

Over-the-counter (OTC) omeprazole is used in adults to control heartburn that occurs more than 2 days per week.

(ओमेप्राजोले (Omeprazole) का उपयोग पेट में एसिड सामग्री को कम करने के लिए किया जाता है।)

Uses:

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if it is available from your pharmacist before you begin taking omeprazole and each time you get a refill if your doctor has prescribed this medication for you. Before taking this drug, read and adhere to all product instructions if you're using the over-the-counter product for self-treatment.
Take this drug by mouth as instructed, generally once day before a meal. Your medical condition and treatment response will determine the dosage and duration of the course of action. The dosage is also determined by weight in youngsters. Do not use this medication in larger amounts or more frequently than recommended. Ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any queries.
Chew, break, or not crush delayed release pills. This could cause the medicine to leak completely all at once, raising the possibility of negative effects.

There could be headaches or tummy aches. Inform your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if any of these side effects persist or get worse.Inform your doctor straight away if you experience any severe side effects, such as lupus symptoms, muscular spasms, abnormal heartbeat, or indications of low blood levels of magnesium (such as rash on nose and cheeks, new or worsening joint pain).Rarely, a serious intestinal disease brought on by the bacteria C. difficile may be brought on by this medicine. This issue could arise while receiving treatment.
