Information

Lisinopril belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by reducing certain chemicals that constrict blood vessels, making blood flow smoother and allowing the heart to pump blood more efficiently. High blood pressure is a common condition that, if left untreated, can damage the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other parts of the body. , can cause heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, blurred vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medications, lifestyle changes can also help control blood pressure. These changes include a low-fat and low-salt diet, a healthy weight, at least 30 minutes of exercise most days, no smoking, and moderate drinking.

Uses:

Lisinopril is used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure in adults and children over the age of 6. It is used in combination with other drugs to treat heart failure. Lisinopril is also used to improve survival after a heart attack.

Side Effects:

Some of the common side effects are:

  • cough
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • excessive tiredness
  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • weakness
  • sneezing
  • runny nose
  • decrease in sexual ability
  • rash

Dosage:

Lisinopril is available as tablets and as a solution (liquid) taken by mouth. In general, take once a day. Take your lisinopril dose at about the same time each day so you don't forget to take it. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take Lisinopril as directed. Do not take more or less, or more often than directed by your doctor.
