Oseltamivir sold under brand names such as Tamiflu. Oseltamivir is an antiviral drug that blocks the effects of influenza virus types A and B in the body. It works by stopping the spread of the flu virus in the body.
Uses:
Oseltamivir is used to treat influenza in people aged 2 weeks and older who have had flu symptoms within 2 days. Oseltamivir can also be given to prevent influenza in people who may have been exposed but have not yet developed symptoms. This medicine does not cure colds.
Dosage:
Take oseltamivir exactly as directed by your doctor. Follow all directions on the prescription label and read the medication guide or directions for use. Use the medicine as directed.Start taking this medicine as soon as possible if you develop flu symptoms such as fever, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose.Swallow oseltamivir capsules with a glass of water. Shake the oral suspension before measuring the dose. Use the included syringe or dosimeter (not a kitchen spoon).Oseltamivir can be taken with food if you have an upset stomach.

- vomiting
- diarrhea
- headache
- trouble sleeping
Some side effects can be serious:
- psychotic symptoms
- seizures
In the United States, it is recommended for influenza infections during pregnancy.
