Hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene, also known as cotriamterside. The combination of triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a class of drugs called diuretics (water pills). They cause the kidneys to excrete unwanted water and salts from the body into the urine.
Uses:
The combination of Hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene is used to treat hypertension and edema [ Edema is swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in your body's tissues ]. It is especially used in patients with low potassium levels in the blood when taking hydrochlorothiazide alone.It is taken orally.

Dosage:
A combination of triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide is available as oral capsules and tablets. In general, take once a day. Take triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide at about the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide as directed. Do not take more or less, or more often than directed by your doctor.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene include:
- stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation
- dizziness, headache
- blurred vision
- Dry mouth
Some side effects can be serious:
- rash
- hives
- itch
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- pain in the upper abdomen
- Abdominal swelling or tenderness
- upset stomach
- heat
