What is Fluticasone; Vilanterol? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects

Information

Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs called steroids. It works by reducing airway swelling. Vilanterol belongs to a class of drugs called long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs). It works by relaxing and opening the airways in the lungs, making breathing easier.

Uses:

Fluticasone and vilanterol are combination steroids and bronchodilators used in adults with asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)  [ Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs ].  to improve symptoms and prevent bronchospasm or asthma attacks.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Fluticasone and vilanterol are intended for long-term treatment of patients with COPD. In people with asthma, fluticasone and vilanterol are intended for short-term treatment until symptoms are well controlled with other drugs.

Using vilanterol alone may increase the risk of death in people with asthma. However, combined use of fluticasone and vilanterol does not increase this risk. Fluticasone and vilanterol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Dosage:

The combination of fluticasone and vilanterol comes as an oral inhalation powder with a special inhaler. In general, inhale once a day. Inhale fluticasone and vilanterol at approximately the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Do not use more or less, or use more often than directed by your doctor. Do not use inhaled fluticasone and vilanterol during a sudden attack of asthma or COPD. Your doctor will prescribe a short-acting (reliever) inhaler to use during an attack of asthma or COPD.

Side Effects:

Fluticasone and Vilanterol may cause side effects:
