Insulin detemir sold under brand names such as Levemir. Insulin detemir is an artificial long-acting human insulin. Insulin Detemir works by replacing the insulin that the body normally produces and helping move sugar from the blood to other body tissues where it is used for energy. It also prevents the liver from producing more sugar.
Dosage:
Use insulin detemir exactly as directed by your doctor. Follow all directions on the prescription label and read the medication guide or directions for use.Inject insulin detemir subcutaneously. Your health care provider can teach you how to use your medicine properly.Read and carefully follow all directions for use that come with your medicine. If you do not understand all of the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Uses:
Insulin detemir is used to treat type 1 diabetes ( condition in which the body does not produce insulin and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood ). It is also used to treat people with type 2 diabetes( condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood ).
Insulin detemir is for use in adults and children at least 2 years old.
Insulin detemir is not to be used to treat diabetic ketoacidosis ( Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious complication of diabetes that can be life-threatening. DKA is most common among people with type 1 diabetes. )
