Aripiprazole, sold under brand names such as Abilify and Aristada, is an atypical antipsychotic. It works by altering the activity of certain natural substances in the brain.Aripiprazole is not approved for use in older people with dementia-related psychosis. Available as a generic.
Uses:
Aripiprazole is used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia (a mental disorder that causes disturbed or abnormal thinking, loss of interest in life, and intense or inappropriate emotions) in adults and adolescents 13 years and older. Also used alone or with others to treat manic or mixed episodes (manic and depressive episodes) in adults with bipolar disorder ( Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression ). When you become depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities.). Dosage:
Aripiprazole is available in tablets, solution (liquid), and orally disintegrating tablets (tablets that dissolve quickly in the mouth) to be taken by mouth. In general, take this medicine once a day with or without food. Apliprazole is also available as a tablet containing an ingestion detection device to provide adults with information on how to take the drug. Take aripiprazole at about the same time each day. Side Effects:
Common side effects include vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, and movement disorders. Serious side effects include malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, and anaphylaxis. Not recommended for older adults with dementia-related psychosis due to increased risk of mortality. During pregnancy, there are signs that indicate possible damage to the baby. Not recommended for breastfeeding women.
