Lisdexamfetamine is available as oral capsules and chewable tablets. In general, take this medicine once a day in the morning, with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take lisdexamfetamine exactly as directed.
Chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
The capsule can be swallowed whole, or the capsule can be opened and the entire contents sprinkled over yogurt, a glass of water, or orange juice. Do not save the mixture for later use or divide the contents of one capsule into multiple doses.
Common side effects of lisdexamphetamine include loss of appetite, anxiety, diarrhea, trouble sleeping, nervousness, and nausea. Rare but serious side effects include mania, sudden cardiac death in patients with underlying heart problems, and psychosis. According to the DEA, there is a high potential for substance abuse. Serotonin syndrome can occur when used with certain other medications.Use during pregnancy may harm the baby and use while breastfeeding is not recommended by the manufacturer.
