What is Budesonide/formoterol ? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects

Budesonide/formoterol, marketed under brand names such as Symbicort, is a fixed-dose combination drug used to treat asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It includes the steroid budesonide and the long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) formoterol. The product monograph does not support sudden exacerbation or use for the treatment of active bronchospastic asthma. However, combined use of budesonide and formoterol does not increase this risk.
Budesonide and formoterol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Budesonide and formoterol is a combination medicine used to control and prevent the symptoms of asthma in adults and children at least 6 years old.

Budesonide and formoterol is also used to help control the symptoms of  chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including  chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Follow all directions on the prescription label and read all medication manuals. Use the medicine as directed. Overuse of this drug can cause life-threatening side effects.
If you are also taking oral corticosteroids, do not stop taking them suddenly. If you need to taper your dose, follow your doctor's advice. Budesonide and formoterol are not rescue drugs for asthma or bronchospasm attacks. If an attack occurs, use only fast-acting inhalers. Seek medical attention if your breathing problems are getting worse rapidly, or if your asthma medications don't seem to be working as well.
Read and carefully follow all directions for use that come with your medicine. If you do not understand these directions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Do not let small children use budesonide and formoterol without adult help.
