Fenofibrate (sold under the brand names Tricor, Fenobrat and so forth.), is a fibrate-based oral medication used to treat high blood lipid levels. It was first used in medicine in 1975 after being patented in 1969. It can be purchased as a generic drug.
Uses:
Because it treats a different kind of cholesterol abnormality than statins do, it is less commonly used. There is evidence to suggest that fenofibrate also reduces the risk of heart disease and death, despite the strong evidence that statins reduce the risk of heart disease and death. However, it appears that this only applies to particular groups of people who have lower HDL cholesterol and higher triglyceride levels. Its utilization is suggested along with dietary changes.
Dosage:
Fenofibrate is available as a tablet, a delayed-release (long-acting) capsule, and a capsule. Typically, it is taken once per day. Fenoglide, Lipofen, and Lofibra are examples of fenofibrate products that should be taken with a meal. Antara, Fibricor, Tricor, Triglide, and Trilipix are the other brands that can be taken with or without food. If you are unsure whether you should take your medication with food, consult your physician or pharmacist.
Completely swallow the delayed-release tablets; They should not be split, chewed, or crushed.
Do not take any tablets that are cracked or broken if you are taking Triglide.
As long as you continue to take fenofibrate, it will help reduce the amount of fatty substances in your blood. Even if you are feeling well, continue taking fenofibrate. Without consulting your physician, do not stop taking fenofibrate.
