Escitalopram is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class and is marketed under the brand names Lexapro and Cipralex, among others. Escitalopram is primarily used to treat generalised anxiety disorder and severe depressive disorder. It is consumed orally and is only commercially accessible as an oxalate salt.

Uses:
Escitalopram is available as a tablet and a liquid solution for oral use. Typically, it is taken once day, with or without food. Take escitalopram at roughly the same time each day, either in the morning or in the evening, to help you remember to take it. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any instructions on your prescription label that you are unsure about following. Follow the medication's directions precisely. Never take it in larger or less amounts or more frequently than directed by your doctor.
Dosage:
use - Acute treatment of generalized anxiety disorder
Initial dose: 10 mg orally once daily; increase to 20 mg once daily if necessary after at least one week of treatment.

use - Acute and maintenance treatment of major depressive disorder
Initial dose: 10 mg orally once day, with the possibility of increasing to 20 mg once daily after at least one week of treatment.

Side effects:

- sexual problems in males; decreased sex drive, inability to get or keep an erection, or delayed or absent ejaculation
