What is Duloxetine? Full information, usage, benefits and side effects

Information

Duloxetine sold under brand names such as Cymbalta. Duloxetine belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It works by increasing levels of the natural substances serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, which help maintain mental balance and stop the movement of pain signals in the brain. It is recommended as a Grade B first-line drug for the treatment of neuropathy and as a first-line drug for fibromyalgia associated with mood disorders by the German Interdisciplinary Society for Pain Therapy.

Uses:

Duloxetine is used to treat depression and anxiety. It is also used to relieve neuralgia (peripheral neuropathy) in people with diabetes and persistent pain such as arthritis, chronic low back pain, and fibromyalgia (a condition that causes widespread pain). Duloxetine may improve mood, sleep, appetite, and energy levels and reduce nervousness. It can also relieve pain caused by certain medical conditions. Duloxetine is known as a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). This drug helps restore the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain.

Dosage:

Duloxetine is available as delayed-release capsules (which release the drug in the intestine to prevent the drug from being broken down by stomach acid) to be taken orally. When duloxetine is used to treat depression, it is usually taken 1 to 2 times daily with or without food. When duloxetine is used to treat generalized anxiety disorder, pain associated with diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, or persistent bone or muscle pain, usually 1 daily with or without food Take once. Take duloxetine at about the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take duloxetine as directed. Do not take more or less, take more often, or take longer than directed by your doctor.
