Infromation:
Amoxicillin belongs to a group of drugs that look like penicillin. By stopping the growth of bacteria, it works.
Amoxicillin and other antibiotics will not treat viral infections like the common cold or the flu. If you take antibiotics when you don't need to, you run the risk of getting an infection later on that won't respond to antibiotic treatment.
Uses:
Amoxicillin is used to treat tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, skin infections, infections of the ear, nose, throat, and urinary tract, among other bacterial infections.
Amoxicillin and another antibiotic, clarithromycin (Biaxin), are sometimes used together to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Lansoprazole (Prevacid), a stomach acid reducer, is sometimes used with this combination.
Dosage:
Take amoxicillin exactly as your doctor has instructed you to. Read all medication guides and instruction sheets and adhere to all instructions on your prescription label.
Amoxicillin should be taken daily at the same time.
A few types of amoxicillin might be taken regardless of food. Check the label of your medication to determine whether or not you should take it with food.
Before taking a dose, shake the liquid oral suspension.
Use a medicine dose-measuring device (not a kitchen spoon) or the supplied dosing syringe to measure liquid medication. You can combine the liquid with ginger ale, milk, fruit juice, or baby formula. Consume the entire mixture right away. Don't save anything for later.
Side effects:
- nausea

Serious side effects are possible. Stop taking amoxicillin and call your doctor right away, or go to an emergency room if you experience any of these symptoms:
