Information

Metoprolol belongs to a class of drugs called beta-blockers. It relaxes blood vessels, slows the heart rate, improves circulation, and lowers blood pressure. High blood pressure is a common condition that, if left untreated, can damage the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other parts of the body. , can cause heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, blurred vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medications, lifestyle changes can also help control blood pressure. These changes include a low-fat and low-salt diet, a healthy weight, at least 30 minutes of exercise most days, no smoking, and moderate drinking.

Uses:

Metoprolol is used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure.It is also used to prevent angina pectoris (chest pain) and improve survival after a heart attack. Metoprolol is also used in combination with other drugs to treat heart failure.

  • dry mouth
  • stomach pain
  • vomiting
  • gas or bloating
  • heartburn
  • constipation
  • rash or itching
  • cold hands and feet
  • runny nose

Dosage:

Metoprolol is available as tablets and as extended-release (long-acting) tablets for oral use. Ordinary tablets are usually taken once or twice a day with or after meals. Extended-release tablets are usually taken once a day. Remember to take your metoprolol at about the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take metoprolol as directed. Do not take more or less, or more often than directed by your doctor.
