Alprazolam, among others, marketed under the brand name Xanax, is a fast-acting, potent, moderately long-acting tranquilizer of the triazolobenzodiazepine (TBZD) class, which are benzodiazepines (BZDs) fused to a triazole ring. It works by suppressing abnormal arousals in the brain.
Uses:
Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety caused by depression. Other uses include treating nausea with chemotherapy and other treatments. GAD improvement usually occurs within he week. Alprazolam is commonly taken orally.
Dosage:
Alprazolam is available in tablets, extended-release tablets, orally disintegrating tablets (tablets that dissolve quickly in the mouth), and oral concentrates (liquids). Tablets, disintegrating tablets, and liquid concentrates are usually taken two to four times daily. Take the extended-release tablet once a day, usually in the morning. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify any areas you do not understand. Take alprazolam as directed. Use only the dropper provided with your prescription to take the concentrate. Suck up one dose of prescription into the dropper. Squeeze the contents of the dropper into liquid or semi-solid foods such as water, juice, soda, applesauce, pudding. Gently stir the liquid or food for a few seconds. The concentrate mixes perfectly with the food. Drink or eat the entire mixture immediately. Do not save for later use.
