What is Shakhotak? - Information & uses


  • Streblus as per is commonly known as Siora, Sihoda, Choriya, Sahora, Rusa, Pirai, Sihor and Sakhotaka in India. It is a medium-sized evergreen tree that is distributed in tropical countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
  • Shahotaka/Sihoda is a medicinal tree and is used in Ayurvedic and other folk remedies to treat a variety of ailments, like Filarial, disease, leprosy, toothache, diarrhea, dysentery, wounds, scabies, psoriasis, dental care.
  • The delicate branches of the tree are used as toothbrushes because they have a selective bactericidal action against the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Brushing with twigs also helps with alveolar pyorrhea.
